Wade is 5 years old!

Dear Wade,
Our big boy is now a WHOLE HAND OLD! That's right, 5 fingers. You could not be more excited. Everything is cooler when you're five.

I can honestly say you are equally a daddy and mama's boy. You even have the PC answer ready when asked, "who do you love more?" You say, "I love you, both the same." Good answer. You love to be silly, active and playful with daddy. As soon as you hear Beau's car pull in from work, you scream "DADDY'S HOME!!" and run outside. You spend hours riding bikes and playing baseball in the cul-de-sac. If daddy has to go to work on the weekend, you beg to tag along. He usually caves in and you spend the morning drawing on post-it pads, putting golf balls in the hallway, and walking across the street to eat breakfast with Poppa. I hope you remember how excited you are to spend special time with daddy!

With me, you are a sweet cuddly boy. I can always get a big hug and sloppy kiss from you. I cherish that lovin' because I know you don't give it out freely. All of our family and friends know that you're really not a hugger....more of a high five kinda guy. I love our dates just the two of us. Now that you're so big, we can do special things that Bree can't, so it's nice to have some one-on-one time.

You loved our time in the snow this winter at the Greenbrier. You just might be ready for ski trip next year???

Learning to ride your bike was one of your greatest achievements this year. You finally decided you were ready and just took off. Your courage and pride was remarkable. I LOVED seeing you succeed and feel that joy!!

Disney World was definitely a highlight of the year. Characters, Jedi training, roller coasters....you loved it all (and don't forget the hotel pool!)

You are quickly adjusting to the lake life. You love to go tubing and eventually we'll get you up on skis. Until then, you're most happy driving the boat and watching the progress on the lake house. I can't wait for all the family memories we will share together up there!

You went to your first UGA football game this year and are now hooked. Everything red is a Georgia thing. A red backpack? That's a Georgia backpack. Red blanket? Georgia blanket.

You love your sports and have been very brave in starting our church rec leagues. You did t-ball in the fall and soccer in the spring. You enjoyed both, but baseball is definitely your favorite.

On your actual birthday, you made this poster for school. In true Montessori fashion, you insisted on doing all by yourself. You've not always been interested in crafty, cut/paste, drawing projects so I try to encourage it anytime you show interest. We've been working hard on your fine motor skills and your writing is getting so much better!

Your big present: a new bike! You call it a "racing bike"

You are still the sweetest big brother I know. You truly love your sister. You love to wake her up in the morning, see her come down the stairs with her crazy, and wrestle likes she's a big boy too. She's pretty tough and can take it, but I still have to ask you to be careful. You use this high pitched baby voice when you're teaching her something or trying to show her something cool. And of course, sometimes you don't like to share or choose to steal her toys just to make her scream. Luckily those times are few and far between.

You love your little brother Trevor too. You talk about him often and like to include him when we talk about our family, who's the oldest/youngest, and especially when we meet new babies. It's not out of sadness, just that he was and always be a part of our family - your brother. Every letter "T" stands for Trevor. Or if you're spelling a word with T, you'll ask "T like Trevor". And I smile and say YES. It give my heart a big twisted tug, but I love that you talk about him. You found this notebook and wrote his name in the front for him. You wanted to share it with him. I LOVE your heart and the special place you hold for Trevor in it.

Spring allergies kicked your butt this year (see your eyes above?)!!! Your eyes get swollen, you can hardly breath, and you coughed uncontrollably. We kept you on constant Allegra, eye drops, nasal spray, and breathing treatments. It's hard for you (and all of us) not to get to enjoy spring outside, but luckily it passes as pollen washes away!

Wade, you are all boy and you know it! Fast cars, bikes, sports, math, making fart noises on you arm, and wrestling. You love it all. As you grow and learn, I pray you keep the joy and see the fun in each day. We ENJOY you and are privileged to be your parents.
Love Always, Mommy & Daddy

Wade's English Tea Party @ Casa

One of our favorite cultural days at Casa is the English Tea Party. The kids are precious in their prim and proper attire.

Dede helped me set-up a knighting ceremony this year as a station. She had the awesome wooden crest and throne. Each of the kids learned what it takes to become a knight. And then each took a turn in a ceremony. The "queen" made the hopeful "knight" take oaths to honor and protect.

Queen Lori took a turn...

After the stations, the gentlemen escort the ladies to a traditional English tea. Wade got to escort our friend, Ella to a private table for two. I had to keep my eye on these two!! :)

The little love birds!

As they dined, a processional of English dignitaries came by. ..

I love being a part of these special days at school!

Wade Soccer: The Navy Blue Ninjas

Wade wanted to switch gears from baseball this spring and give soccer another try. His first soccer experience at age 3 didn't end so well (read about that HERE), but we were glad he was willing to try again.
We joined a team at Mt. Bethel with some of his friends.  This was definitely the ROOKIE team of the league, but the boys had no clue they lost almost every game. We lost the first few games 20 something to 0. It was comical. The boys had a blast regardless!

Can you believe THIS group didn't take the game seriously???

Each kid takes a turn in the different positions. Wade was actually pretty good at goalie. I think he liked the focused task of "just save the ball from going in the net".

This picture is precious, but complete false advertising. The boys in blue (Reed, Jack, & Wade) weren't as attentive on the ball as this picture makes it look :)

Bree makes a good spectator. She is a happy cheerleader...as long as I bring snacks.

Wade has just as much fun on the bench as on the field.

Intense concentration, complete with tongue.

High fives and prayer time at the end.

Sheesha, Trent and Cae came to cheer on Wade one day!

Wade really did enjoy soccer! I don't think he will abandon baseball to switch over completely, but it was FUN!
