The Paci Pass Off for Presents

Bree is almost 2 and 1/2.
She's obsessed with her pacifiers.
Pacifiers are supposed to live up to their name and pacify fussy babies.
However, there is so much whining over her paci, they are doing more harm than good.
Not to mention, her daddy dentist said that her teeth are starting to shift and her bite was getting messed up.

So I started brainstorming what our abolition strategy was going to be. Cut all the pacis so they lose suction and pretend I have no idea what happened? Have the paci fairy come and magically remove all the pacis leaving a present in their place? Drive to the hospital and give all the pacis to the new babies that need them? We had great success with Wade giving up his bottles by making him "purchase" his favorite train with his bottles (read about the "Big Bottle Barter" HERE). But that only worked because he really wanted that train and would've done whatever necessary to get it. Bree isn't into one thing or item that would separate her from her beloved pacis. In the end, here's what we did...

I collected all of her pacifiers into a bag.

We invited some friends over to watch football, including the Starr's new baby boy, Schuler.

With lots of sweet talking, Bree was excited to give Schuler ONE of her pacis.

"Here you go Schuler! One for you..."

"And one for me."

Then I told her she needed to give Schuler ALL of her pacis, including the one in her mouth.

Bree did not like that one bit.

She lost it, refused to open the Minnie Mouse toy Schuler brought for her, and continued to pitch a big old fit.

Luckily, she actually went to sleep that night without a pacifier. She asked for it occasionally after that night, but wasn't too upset when I reminded her she gave them to baby Schuler. The moral of this story is that (once again) the dreaded milestone chores of parenting aren't nearly as bad as I think they will be. Wade and Bree both surprise me with their adaptability and maturity in each new phase of life!

Stay tuned for more big changes for my baby girl!!!post signature

Alex Shelfer Park

An early Christmas present for Seam & Jennifer!!!

7 lb 1 oz

Seam and Jennifer welcomed baby Alex a few days early on November 30th. Originally we all thought it would be cool to have a 12-12-12 birthday. Then I wanted Alex to hold out for at least the 12-1-12 birthday. But oh well, 11-30-12 doesn't have quite the same ring to it.....but he's here and he's healthy and that's all that really matters :)

Alex smiling at Daddy...

A serious conversation about sticky poops...

Proud Grandma...

Giving some baby love...

Me and Alex. He's such a little nugget!

Poor Jen was exhausted after labor and eventually a C-section. We just had to give them all a squeeze and then let the new family rest.

And then I had a chance to take a few quick shots of the little man when he was about 2 weeks old. Here are just a few of my favorites..

NOVEMBER in a nutshell

In November we...

Helped Daddy blow leaves. Wade & Bree thought it was hilarious when he blew ripples in their bellies...

Wade & Mommy took a "hike" down to Sope Creek. We really nee to do this more often, because it's such an easy adventure to do with him.

Bree being a maniac on the church playground...

Orwell - 16 year s old and still kicking! He came to us as a stray after surviving a long time on his own. And after 6 years with us, he still thinks every trash bag (or pizza box) holds his next meal.

Wade & Bree got to help Grandpa Greg put away some of his critters. Greg's doing great with his reptile presentations for school and birthday parties. Most weekends are booked solid!

We are so lucky to see Lauren and Colt at Mt. Bethel Preschool most days. Sometimes we let the kids play after school for some extra cousin bonding...

November weather was beautiful and we spent many days at the park...

This lovely piece of digging equipment was parked in our front yard to dig up a water leak. Our neighbor had noticed a lot of water draining into their yard and alerted us to the problem. I just thought the kids were taking really long showers and baths. Whoops. Don't ask me how how many months I missed it on our water bills. And definitely don't ask Beau. Not a good subject.

Over Thanksgiving, the Benich girls broke away for some pampering. Bree & Ellis both got their nails painted.

She takes her nail polish very seriously and sits perfectly still.

Later that night, we took the kids to Mountasia for putt-putt golf and go cart rides. These two were way too cute for putt-putt.
