Wade's Italy Day @ Casa

The cultural days are a highlight for all kids at Casa Montessori. And while they are a lot of work for the moms, we get to enjoy spectating too. The days and weeks leading up to day, the classes study aspects of each culture, learn some words and phrases in the language, and prepare for the big celebration day. They start the year with ITALY in October....

First the kids work their way around to the different Italian cities. Wade and his travel mates, Bennett and Camryn, started in Rome. They saw the Colosseum, the Vatican and met the Pope...

In Tuscany, they help make wine by squishing (and sampling) grapes...

In Florence, they took a turn chipping away at a sculpture like Michelangelo's David

In Florence, they took a ride on gondola...

In Milan, they appreciated great works of art like da Vinci's Last Supper and Mona Lisa

In Pisa, they learned that the leaning tower is a bell tower and tried to build their own...

After their Italian tour, they made their way to the Trattoria for some Pizelles...

After a quick snack, the class was ready for a dance party (to traditional Italian music)...

It shocked me to hear all the song they know and sing. And Wade was doing it right along with them. Who know he could sing???

After all the activities, the class retired to the room for an Italian feast of meatballs, garlic bread, antipasta, and gelato. Wade was smiling and stuffed and thoroughly exhausted!!!!

Wade has his first positive team sport experience! After our first attempt with soccer at the YMCA (click HERE for that story), I was a little worried he might not be the team sport kind of kid. But with a little maturity under his belt (and really cool gear), he was ready to run onto the field!


Wade decided he wanted to give baseball a try. We signed him up at our church, found the smallest pair of gray baseball pants ever made, and were prepared for disaster. Instead, we had an excited boy each and every week.  We knew his team color was green, so this Wade found every piece of green clothing he owned for the first practice.

He tried to focus hard on what the coaches were teaching...

And when it came time to play, he actually made a play! He got the first out in the first inning of his first ever baseball game. Never mind that the batter was a girl and ran towards 3rd before heading to 1st. Technicality.

And when it was his turn to hit, he scored a home run! Never mind that every player swing until they hit it and run the bases until they are home. Again...technicality.

And at the end of the game, all the coaches and players huddle up for a team prayer. Saturday mornings don't get much better than that!

Wade's friend Reed is on the team and they cause quite a bit of mischief on and off the field.

As the season progressed, Wade continued to enjoy it. He looked forward to going and would leave exhausted.

 The boys in the outfield would wrestle each other for the ball and seemed to enjoy the pile up more than the game!

We ended the season with a pizza and trophy party.

We are so happy that Wade found a team sport to enjoy and look forward to each week. The season is short, so it was over before he could get too bored with it. WE ARE PROUD OF YOU WADE!!!
